Northampton Saints have named the team that will play Aironi Viadana in the final pre-season match of the summer.
The side is similar to that which played against Dax last weekend and will be led by Dylan Hartley, who was also today confirmed by director of rugby Jim Mallinder as the Saints club captain for 2010/11.
“Dylan has grown into the captaincy over the past year and we had no hesitation in giving him the role for this season,” the Saints boss said. “Last year was a steep learning curve for him and he is keen to put those lessons into practice over the coming months and keep the Saints at the top end of the Premiership.”
Mallinder also said that Aironi, whose maiden Magners League season begins next weekend, will provide a stiff test for the Saints.
“Aironi have brought in a lot of quality players who have plenty of experience,” he added. “They are at the end of their own pre-season and are going into a tough Magners League and Heineken Cup campaign of their own. For our players there is plenty to prove before next week’s game against Leicester. The team that came back to win against Nottingham on Monday night showed the heart and desire that we want at the club and the pressure is now on tomorrow’s team to maintain those standards.”
Tickets are still available for tomorrow’s friendly, priced at £6 for juniors, £8 for concessions and £12 for adults. Order them online now by
clicking here and following the simple instructions or in person at the Saints Ticket Office, which will close at 7:30pm tomorrow evening.
The game will be preceded by an Under-19 game between the Saints and Leinster, which kicks off at 5pm on the main pitch. Supporters should note that only the Tetley’s Stand will be open for the Under-19s game, with the remainder of the stadium opening following the conclusion of that match.
