WANDERERS 24 FALCONS 20 Bennett targeting ‘A’ League glory

Having helped the Wanderers open their league season with a win, Sion Bennett says that the whole squad are focused on advancing as far as they can in the Aviva ‘A’ League.

While the back row is among a number who are also looking to secure a place in the first team, the Wanderers group have set their own team goals.

“Personally I want to be pushing for a first team slot just like all the boys so you want to try and get some game time, show everyone what you’ve got, and try and prove to the coaches that you deserve a place on the team sheet,” Bennett told SaintsTV.

“That said, all of the boys have sat down and we’ve said that we think we can win this ‘A’ League. We know that we’ve come close in the last few years so it’s definitely a target to do better this year.”

The Wanderers came from behind thanks to a Tom Collins double after the break, and Bennett believes that fitness played a big part in the result.

“We spoke at half time and said that we needed to pick the pace up a little bit. We knew that we were fitter than them and it showed in that five minute period where we really put them away.

“We still think that there’s quite a bit to work on but you can never complain with a win. It’s a good start to the season.

“Especially for me it was nice playing in front of this crowd for the first time and hopefully we’ll carry this form onto next week and Gloucester.”

That game is another 7:30pm kick off at Franklin’s Gardens, with Season Ticket Holders enjoying FREE entry.
