Wood starts against Wallabies

Tom Wood makes his third start of Rugby World Cup 2015 as England face a do or die tie with Australia on Saturday evening (KO 8pm).

Defeat to Wales last weekend makes the Twickenham meeting a must win if England are to progress to the knockout stages of their own World Cup and Stuart Lancaster has made a trio of changes.

Jonathan Joseph returns as the midfield is shuffled again, while Joe Launchbury and Ben Morgan replace Courtney Lawes – who has picked up a knee knock – and the injured Billy Vunipola.

Saints flanker Wood has yet to miss a minute of the tournament and wears six once more, while clubmate Kieran Brookes is again among the replacements.

Head coach Lancaster acknowledged the importance of Saturday evening’s game.

““JJ and Ben Youngs are both fit and raring to go, as are the rest of the squad for what will be a huge game against a very good team,” he commented. “England-Australia matches at Twickenham are always massive occasions, this one more than ever, and we want everyone behind us so we can get the result we all want.”

The game is being shown live on ITV.
