Onojaife dual registers with Bedford

Northampton Saints has today announced that the club has agreed to dual-register Jordan Onojaife with Bedford Blues.

The 22-year-old second rower made half a dozen appearances for the Blues in the Championship in 2016/17 and director of rugby Jim Mallinder says that having an extended period of time playing for the same club in the league will be beneficial to his career.

“Jordan is a talented young player who has just turned 22, and it’s easy to forget that he is still in the early stages of his career,” Mallinder commented. “He played well for Bedford towards the end of last season and will improve more over the next few months. The Championship is a tough competition to play in and Jordan will benefit from the experience.”

Onojaife will remain available for the club’s Anglo-Welsh Cup matches, the Premiership Rugby ‘A’ League campaign, as well as friendlies and development games.

Mallinder has also confirmed that Sam Dickinson has signed a new short-term deal with the Saints, and announced that Irish youngster Paddy Ryan has joined the club’s Senior Academy as a back row prospect.

“Louis Picamoles’ departure obviously left a gap in the squad, and while we are bringing someone to the club later in the season we needed someone who we knew and trusted immediately,” Mallinder explained.

“Sam is a senior player and a good leader, as we saw when he captained the Wanderers to the Premiership Rugby ‘A’ League title in May. He sets a good example for the players around him and we’re happy that he has agreed to stay on in the short-term.”
