Club and supporters help raise even more money for Royal British Legion

Northampton Saints and its supporters have a long track record of getting behind the country’s servicemen and women. This has continued in 2017 with the club announcing more funds that will be heading to the Royal British Legion.

The sales of a limited edition enamel badge featuring both the poppy and club crest has brought in nearly £1,400, adding to the thousands of pounds that was donated either through poppy sales, bucket shakes and the silent auction to be a mascot at the Saints’ home game against Gloucester last November.

This is the second year that the Saints Shop has sold this badge, which has sold out on both occasions.

“I would like to thank the Saints and all of the club’s supporters for getting behind our fundraising efforts,” said Vaughn Glynn, honorary poppy appeal organiser for the Royal British Legion’s Northampton Branch.

“The collections and donations from the Saints have helped us raise over £129,000 during this year’s poppy appeal. This enables the Royal British Legion to continue its welfare work helping service personnel, their families and veterans. Once again, thank you for your continued support.”

The Saints has long-standing close links with the Armed Forces, especially the British Army, and in addition to the annual poppy appeal has worked with charities such as ABF: The Soldier’s Charity and Help for Heroes in the past.

The Royal British Legion provides financial, social and emotional care and support to all members of the British Armed Forces - past and present and their families. The Legion is also the national Custodian of Remembrance and safeguards the Military Covenant between the nation and its Armed Forces and is best known for the annual Poppy Appeal and its emblem the red poppy.

Founded in 1921, the Legion is not just about those who fought in the two World Wars of the last century, but also about those involved in the many conflicts since 1945 and those still fighting for the freedom we enjoy today.

Locally the Legion has eight trained and very active case-workers who provide advice and support
