Supporters thanked for Travis Perkins Toy Collection generosity

Saints supporters have been thanked by their festive generosity at the most recent Travis Perkins Big Christmas Toy Collection.

Supporters, together with Travis Perkins employees as well as the general public, helped brighten the Christmases of thousands of children and young people in care and in need in Northamptonshire by packing donation bags at Franklin’s Gardens and Northampton’s branches of Travis Perkins.

“We had the best year ever,” said Jeanette Walsh from Northamptonshire County Council’s social services team. “Thanks to your help we managed to collect and distribute thousands of gifts and food hampers to our child care teams across the county. Once again you have made a big difference.”

Some of the comments received from the child care teams include:

‘The four families that received presents were extremely grateful and the children were so excited to open the boxes with the sweets and gifts inside.  Parents were very grateful and were informed where these came from which was an unexpected surprise.  The children all had lots of gifts given to them that you have provided and clearly loved these and has made their Christmas experience a happy one!’

‘My families have all benefitted from the toys and items received, I have had a child who only enjoys sensory play and there have been appropriate toys for him as well and he has really enjoyed these. Also a lot of toys have been received which have been appropriate to stimulate learning and development, so very useful. Also I know that some of my colleagues found it really helpful that this year we had presents for older children as well. Thank you very much.’

‘I just want to express gratitude on behalf of the children that received the gifts from you. The children were very pleased especially two siblings that had been told (by their mother with mental health problems) Christmas had been cancelled. The presents made them have a positive feeling during Christmas.’

‘One of my families has four children and she lives in temporary accommodation. The children range between 2 and 14 years old. Since moving to the borough the family have moved around different bed and breakfast accommodation so their life has been really unstable. None of the children are in school. All their belongings were stolen and the only presents they received this Xmas were the ones that were donated. When I have been on visits the children have not had anything to play with. They were overjoyed with the presents they received. This has given them something to do for example the jewelry making kit and the craft activities they have made.’

The Saints works with various local companies and charities throughout the year to help those less fortunate in society. On February 3rd supporters can help the new Bedside Book Club at Northampton General Hospital by donating their books in the Match Village before the Saints’ Anglo-Welsh Cup match against the Scarlets. Just leave your books – they do not have to be new but need to be in a reasonable quality – at a special drop-off point by a Travis Perkins van adjacent to the Saints Study Centre.
