North score in thrilling draw

George North opened his scoring account for the 2017 Tour of New Zealand as the British and Irish Lions weathered a Hurricanes storm for a share of the spoils in a Wellington cracker.

The tourists - for whom Courtney Lawes impressed again - looked to be cruising at the break, North's try from the centres handing them a 23-7 advantage after Tommy Seymour's interception score and an impressive display with the boot from Dan Biggar.

Their Super Rugby hosts came back out of the blocks flying, but having conceded quickly the Lions regrouped, sending Seymour over for a second to re-establish a comfortable lead.

That effort came during a sin bin period for the hosts, but when the Hurricanes had a chance to play against 14 men they went one better, crossing twice during Iain Henderson's absence.

Scoreboard levelled after Jordie Barrett's conversion, momentum looked to be on the hosts' side, but  a frantic final few minutes ended in the Hurricanes' half and the game ended when a Bigger drop goal attempt fell agonisingly short.

Attentions now turn to the second Test on Saturday, both Lawes and North putting their hands up for selection as the Lions look to bounce back on the same ground against the All Blacks.
