England stormed to a huge 74-17 victory over Samoa to get their World Rugby U20 Championship started with a bang at Avchala Stadium, Tbilisi.

Saints Academy scrum-half Alex Mitchell scored one of England's seven first half tries as well as assisting in three others. The England youngsters added three more to their total after the break before their opponents got over the whitewash. England then added a further two scores to end the game with a convincing 74-17 win.

Getting on the end of a smart offload from the skipper Zach Mercer, Mitchell scooted over to add the bonus point score before aiding in three more tries to see England lead 43-3 at the turnaround.

Ali Crossdale, Zach Mercer (2), Max Malins, Dominic Morris and Gabriel Ibitoye also touched down in the first half.

Further tries from Marcus Street, Crossdale, Ciaran Knight took the score to 60-3 but Samoa got their first try of the game through Losi Filipo.

Morris and Ibitoye crossed in quick succession while Filipo added a second in the final action of the game.

England's next opposition is the familiar face of Wales on June 4th while they face last year's pool opponents Australia on June 8th before the pool stages draw to a close.

Highlights of today's World Rugby U20 Championship, including this game, will be on ITV 4 from 11pm.
