This Christmas, YMCA Trinity Group is fundraising to support young people across Northamptonshire struggling with mental health issues.
At the Northampton Saints v Newcastle Falcons match taking place at Franklin’s Gardens on 1st December, members of the public can help raise money in three ways:
- Purchase a ticket using the code ‘YMCA’, and the charity will receive 10% towards its appeal
- Buy a bauble on the YMCA giving tree located in the supporters village – for just £5 you can fund 10 minutes of mental health counselling for a young person in Northamptonshire
- Buy a raffle ticket for just £1 from a bucket collector – and you could be in with a chance of winning a Northampton Saints prize!
The charity exists with the aim of helping create supportive, inclusive and transforming communities where young people can truly belong, contribute and thrive. All money raised on 1st December will go towards providing mental health counselling across the region.
Recent research undertaken by YMCA has revealed the damaging effects of negative language about mental health amongst young people. Two thirds of young people who have seen or heard harmful words relating to mental health say that they are now simply part of everyday language.
Morgan Price, Counselling Service Manager at YMCA Trinity Group commented: “The impact which this harmful language can have on young people is hugely damaging – more than half of those we spoke to who have been on the receiving end say it stops them from talking about their difficulties.
“At YMCA Trinity Group we are committed to improving our understanding of mental health, building our young people’s resilience and supporting those who struggle on a daily basis. We’re really pleased to be able to fundraise at the match on 1st December and would urge those attending to really dig deep and donate just a few pounds to play their part in supporting young people who are struggling this Christmas.”
Kick-off is at 7.45pm and the donation opportunities will be available throughout the evening.
