Last night Saints' Courtney Lawes was awarded Northamptonshire Sports Personality of the Year for 2017.

Helping England to their second consecutive Six Nations title and becoming a British and Irish Lion as he toured with the select side over the summer, the Northamptonian also racked up his 200th appearance in a Saints shirt over the past year as well as being named in the BT Sport Dream Team for his efforts in the 2016/17 season.

Named among a shortlist of ten Northamptonshire sporting stars who have excelled in their sport over the last year, Lawes was named the Northamptonshire Sports Personality of the Year after the vote was opened up to the public.

Though Lawes could not attend the evening, while away on England duty, the Northampton lock said:

"I’m very honoured to win this award and I’d like to thank everyone who voted for me. The 2016/17 season was a really enjoyable year for me with the chances I had with England and getting the opportunity to play for the Lions. I know I've got more to give and I'm just hoping to keep improving this year."
