Nominate your hero to be honoured at the Mobbs Memorial match
Wednesday, April 11, 2018
Edgar Mobbs is undeniably a hero in the history of Northampton Saints and we are looking for a local military hero to join us as a guest of the Club at the pre-match dinner before the Mobbs Memorial match.
Do you have a family member, friend or work colleague who you think deserves the honour? Do you know someone who’s served for the country, whether in the military or emergency services? All you need to do is give us a reason why they’re your hero and you could be in with a chance of winning!
With a seat in the Sturtridge suite provided, you and your hero will enjoy a two-course meal in the company of the Saints directors and BBC’s James Burridge, not to mention Military dignitaries from around the country, and members of Edgar Mobbs family.
To qualify, your hero must have served with one of the armed forces or emergency services, whether they’re retired or currently serving. As long as yourself and the person you nominate are available on the night of 18th April then we want to hear from you!
Just fill out the below form by midnight on Sunday 15th April, to be in with a chance of winning.
What is the Mobbs Match?
First played in 1921, the Mobbs Memorial Match honours Edgar Mobbs – both a Saints legend and World War One hero. Mobbs was the first man from the club to captain England and who, after he retired, formed his own corps of men to join the British Army and fight in the Great War. Mobbs did not survive the conflict, sadly losing his life in the Battle of Passchendaele in 1917, and while his body was never found, he is commemorated in the form of a statue in Northampton town centre, as well as the Memorial Match that is held by Saints and Bedford Blues on alternate years.
This year’s match will see the Saints take on the British Army on Wednesday 18 April 2018 (kick-off 7.45pm) with tickets priced at £15 for adults and £5 for juniors, concessions, and veterans of the British Armed Forces. As always, all proceeds will go to support the charitable aims of the Mobbs Memorial Fund, which promotes the development of youth rugby in the East Midlands.
“In my first season with the Saints, I am really excited that the Mobbs Memorial Match is returning to Franklin’s Gardens once again,” said Saints CEO Mark Darbon.
“The end of this year will mark 100 years since the end of the Great War, and so there’s no doubt there’s never been a more appropriate time to remember Saints legend Edgar Mobbs and the ultimate sacrifice given by millions of young men and women during the conflict”.
Tickets for the Mobbs Memorial Match are now on sale, with tickets priced at £15 for adults and £5 for juniors, concessions, and veterans of the British Armed Forces.
