Job title: Academy Manager

Reports to: Director of Rugby

Accountable to the PRL Head of Elite Performance and Player Development and RFU Head of Academies, for delivery of academy outcomes and academy spend.

Direct Relationships: Northampton Saints CEO, England team coaches and RFU development staff, PRL representatives.

Nature and scope: To be responsible for the overall management of the Northampton Saints England Rugby Academy

BACKGROUND:

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the Northampton Saints Academy into the future. The club is looking to appoint an individual with the appropriate skillset, passion and experience to devise, implement and deliver the strategic plan for the Northampton Saints Academy.

Our Academy forms part of the RFU/PRL Regional Academy network with the primary objective of identifying and developing the next generation of players for Northampton Saints and England.

ROLE SUMMARY:

The appointee will lead the operation of the Academy, overseeing the personal and athletic development of identified Academy athletes, whilst preparing them for a professional club playing career and developing them to challenge for places within England representative sides.

This is a full-time appointment and the remuneration package offered will reflect the significance of the role and the capabilities of the successful candidate.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Produce and prepare players for professional contracts with the club and to challenge for places within England representative sides
  • To deliver development targets for individual athletes within the Academy squad as agreed with the Director of Rugby and the PRL Head of Elite Performance and Player Development and RFU Head of Academies.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Overall management of the Northampton Saints England Rugby Academy and responsible for all decisions relating thereto
  2. Oversee the establishment of structures and feeder systems that identify playing talent within existing club, school and CB development squads, and by direct referral
  3. Oversee the design and implementation of individual Technical and Tactical development plans for Academy athletes
  4. Forge clear and positive relationships with teachers, coaches and development staff within feeder schools, clubs and CBs
  5. Identify and recruit athletes with potential from other sports
  6. Provide coaching support and management back up to Northampton Saints senior squad and Wanderers sides as required by Director of Rugby
  7. In conjunction with the PRL Head of Elite Performance and Player Development and RFU Head of Academies and England Team Managers establish and agree world class performance standards for fitness, diet, skill measures and attitude for each member of the squad to achieve and maintain. Monitor achievement against these standards
  8. In conjunction with the Director of Rugby manage the playing programme of Academy squad players and their rehabilitation from injury
  9. In conjunction with the PRL Head of Elite Performance and Player Development and RFU Head of Academies and Player Tracking Administrator ensure all player tracking information is entered onto the RFU player tracking database
  10. Broker flexible academic support services from appropriate local providers of higher, further and secondary education
  11. Liaise with the Northampton Saints Performance Director and local UKSI hub and/or most appropriate local provider for agreed levels of sports science/sports medicine support
  12. In conjunction with the Director of Rugby and national coaches establish an effective lifestyle mentoring process for all members of the Academy squad
  13. Ensure the highest level of analysis is performed and available regarding all academy scholars and share that information with the Director of Rugby and the PRL Head of Elite Performance and Player Development and RFU Head of Academies
  14. With the PRL Head of Elite Performance and Player Development and RFU Head of Academies identify and recommend appropriate specialist coaching support for the academy from England team management and specialist coaching staff
  15. Liaise with the Director of Rugby on the appointment/availability of appropriate coaching, medical and administrative staff
  16. Maintain squad discipline on and off the field to the highest standards and to administer the approved disciplinary procedures for the squad
  17. Recommend to the PRL Head of Elite Performance and Player Development and RFU Head of Academies the appropriate programme of in-service courses for self and other Academy coaching staff
  18. Lead on and be responsible for delivering on the Academy Audit and other programmes to ensure that central funding is secured for key programmes
  19. Liaise with Director of Rugby and Chief Executive to prepare, manage and operate within approved financial budgets
  20. Liaise with Director of Rugby, Financial Director and Chief Executive to ensure the Saints Academy operates within the Salary Cap regulations

Northampton Saints is hiring match day hosts and hostesses for match days at Franklin's Gardens.

Working with the club's full-time staff and the Saints' catering partners, the match day hosts and hostesses will play an important part in delivering an outstanding day for guests in the various hospitality suites and match day restaurants.

Applicants must be:

  • Aged 21 and over
  • Have experience working in hospitality
  • Be committed to excellence and outstanding customer service

The Saints is recruiting match day staff for the 2017/18 season.

SAFETY TEAM

Being part of the Safety Team at Franklin’s Gardens is one of the most important roles on match days. You need to make sure that the supporters in your section are safe and happy and be ready to answer their questions, or to point them in the right direction. A positive attitude towards inter-personal skills is a must, as is calmness under pressure. Members of the Safety Team are expected to follow instructions and to be proactive, too. Over-18s only.

CAR PARK ATTENDANTS

Staff are required to manage the entry into the club’s official car parks. Cash handling skills are required, as is a positive attitude and strong inter-personal skills. Over-17s only.

RETAIL STAFF

The club has two shops on the Franklin’s Gardens site on match days, one in the main Franklin’s building and the other in the Match Day Village. Both are extremely busy, so retail staff need to be able to work under pressure and have a positive attitude towards inter-personal skills. Cash handling experience is preferred. Over-16s only.

BACK OF HOUSE STAFF

As a member of our back of house team you will be working to make sure all Kitchen and back of house areas run smoothly and efficiently throughout the day. You will also assist in reporting any maintenance issues, maintaining the kitchen cleaning schedules and be flexible and willing to assist in other departments if necessary.
