Biography

Craig Wright began his rugby career in Chelmsford, progressing through Braintree RFC before excelling at Felsted School, where he was appointed co‑captain.

After joining Saints’ Academy set-up via Suffolk’s pathway as an Under‑13, he earned England Under‑18 honours before signing his first professional contract with Northampton a day prior to his 18th birthday.

He earned his senior debut in the 2023/24 PREM Rugby Cup opener against Ealing Trailfinders and added invaluable minutes throughout a loan spell with Bedford Blues – showcasing his readiness for high-level competition.

In November 2024, Wright notched his first senior try in a dramatic 31–29 PREM Rugby Cup comeback win over Nottingham – just his third senior outing – a score which highlighted his clear speed and power. That season, the hooker managed 14 appearances in all competitions, including one in the Champions Cup Final against Union Bordeaux Bègles.

Wright – a keen darts player who has been known to team up with fellow hooker Curtis Langdon – featured even more prominently in 2025/26 as he made 26 appearances and was in the No.2 jersey for the Gallagher PREM final against Exeter Chiefs as Saints won their second title in three seasons.

On the international stage, Wright has featured prominently in England’s age-grade setup. He earned caps at Under‑19s and Under‑20s level, including starting roles at the 2023 World Rugby Under-20 Championship and 2024 Under-20 Six Nations, where England secured the title.
