Saints Community team return from ‘incredible’ second Argentina tour

Northampton Saints Community team spread the word of the club and inspired Argentinian youngsters during their second successful tour to the South American rugby hotbed.

Before the turn of the new year, the Saints Community team touched back down in the United Kingdom after an action‑packed 12‑day coaching tour of Argentina — delivering two hugely successful rugby camps and engaging nearly 200 young players across the country.

Matty Wainwright, Sam Turner, and Harvey Linnell led the trip, travelling first to Mendoza and then Córdoba to deliver five‑day and four‑day camps at Marista Rugby Club and Tala Rugby Club respectively.

The response from the local rugby community was extraordinary, with 87 players attending the Marista camp and 94 players taking part at Tala RC.

Across both venues, the Saints coaches delivered an impressive 54 hours of on‑field development — 30 hours in Mendoza and 24 in Córdoba — all in temperatures averaging around 30 degrees.

With the heat came a serious appetite, and the young athletes powered through large amounts of fruit, snacks, ice cream, energy drinks and protein bars to keep themselves fuelled throughout the week.

The camps attracted players from right across Argentina, as well as ten participants who travelled from overseas to be part of the Saints experience. The enthusiasm and commitment on display were reflected in the presentation of six Spirit Awards, recognising one standout player from each age group for their attitude, effort, and embodiment of Saints values.

The impact of the programme will continue into next year, with five young players — four boys and one girl — now set to attend the Saints Residential Camps at Stowe School in 2026, having impressed the coaching team during their time in Argentina.

Reflecting on the tour, Rugby Development Officer Matty Wainwright said: “It was incredible to spend the 12 days out in Argentina and meet so many welcoming and hospitable people. The open‑armed welcome allowed us to get stuck into the coaching and push the players with our Saints DNA and coaching styles.”

This year’s camps were delivered in partnership with Sudamerica Coaching, continuing a long‑standing relationship that has seen Saints collaborate with the organisation in Argentina (2024), Chile and Singapore (2023), and Italy (2019). The partnership once again proved invaluable in connecting Saints’ coaching philosophy with passionate rugby communities across the globe.
