Saints to celebrate formal opening of Barwell Stand

Northampton Saints will be celebrating the club’s proud history and bright future when the new Barwell Stand receives its formal opening on Saturday, February 13th.

The ceremonial cutting of the ribbon will take place before the Saints’ Aviva Premiership clash with London Irish, but the day will be about more than just the 80 minutes on the field with a number of the club’s playing legends who turned out hundreds of times in black, green and gold being introduced to the crowd ahead of the game and the unveiling of a special mural being produced by Northampton primary schools in the Match Day Village.

The focus of the day will be to honour the commitment and dedication of the Barwell family, particularly life president Keith Barwell, in establishing the Saints among the pre-eminent clubs in the country during the professional era.

“Now that the Barwell Stand is nearing full completion we’re looking forward to the formal opening and a great celebration of the Saints’ past, present and future,” said chief executive Allan Robson.

“Although the Barwell Stand will honour the name for years to come, it is only fitting that supporters are given the opportunity to show their gratitude and thanks to Keith and the rest of the Barwell family for what they have done for Saints over the years which has culminated in us being where we are today - one of the best clubs in England.

“One of Keith’s core beliefs was that the club is bigger than any one individual, which is why we’re inviting players who have put their names in the history books by having played hundreds of times in the first team to join us, and why we’re working with local schools to tell youngsters about our past that we’re so proud of.

“It will be a great occasion, and we’re looking forward to seeing another full house to help make this a memorable day for Keith and his family.”

More details about the day will be announced closer to the time, including how Season Ticket Holders and other match ticket holders can apply to be a part of a more intimate ceremony earlier in the afternoon.
