Two cup finals, one venue

The LV= Cup is a showcase for the best young players in England and Wales, with the trophy being lifted on Sunday, March 22nd to kick-start the biggest year of rugby in this country over 20 years.

And earlier in the day the next generation will battle it out on the Franklin’s Gardens pitches for the right to be called Lexus Rugby champions. Over 2,000 young rugby players between Under-7 and Under-10 get the opportunity to take part in the Lexus Rugby Tournament each season at regional competitions up and down the country, with the winners from each region being invited to Finals Day.

This year those finals will be played at Franklin’s Gardens, with the winners being presented with their trophies during the half-time interval of the LV= Cup final in front of thousands of supporters.

Lexus division director Richard Balshaw is anticipating an outstanding day of rugby at the home of the Premiership champions.

“Lexus is proud to be hosting the Lexus Rugby national final at Northampton Saints, a club with a superb reputation,” he said. “Franklin’s Gardens will be the perfect venue to host the final event of the 2014/15 tournament and for it to also coincide with the LV= Cup Final is fantastic. We know it will make the final a very memorable experience for all of the players and spectators”

Saints chief executive Allan Robson is looking forward to welcoming Lexus to Franklin’s Gardens in March.

“We know from our own experience how much it means for young rugby players to play on our pitches and to receive their medals in the Franklin’s Gardens stadium, and I know that the Lexus Rugby Tournament will be no different,” he said. “What makes it even more special is that this is a national competition and we will be welcoming teams for whom this may well be their first visit to Northampton.

“The LV= Cup final is going to be a family occasion, and it makes perfect sense for it to also be a day where the next generation of players get their chance to shine, too.”
