Northampton Saints regretfully has been forced to cancel this weekend’s Under-7s tournament that was due to take place on Saturday morning – ahead of the Club’s Aviva Premiership clash with Sale Sharks.
The training pitches around Franklin’s Gardens have unfortunately been exposed to the bitterly cold elements so far this week, and with even more snow and ice expected in the coming days, it will be impossible to provide pitches that are safe and fit for purpose.
The first XV’s match against Sale is still expected to go ahead as planned.
“After reviewing the pitches and the weather forecast this morning, I am very sorry to say that this weekend’s tournament will not go ahead as planned,” said Saints Head of Community Connor Fleming.
“With around 200 players expected on Saturday morning, we’ve done everything in our power to try and get this event to go ahead.
“So, it is with great regret that I have to cancel but with frozen, snow-covered pitched expected, this is a decision the Club has made based on the safety of players, parents and staff.
“Our parade of clubs is still planned for half-time of the match, where any side with matchday tickets that was due to take part will be welcomed onto the Franklin’s Gardens turf in front of a bumper crowd inside the stadium.
“I hope you will all still join us for what is set to be an exciting Aviva Premiership game against Sale – group tickets will remain available to those teams that were set to be involved.”
