European Champions Cup – how things stand (1)

Travis PerkinsSponsored by Travis Perkins

If Treviso do the Saints the monumental favour of winning in Paris at the weekend, victory and the correct combination of bonus points (Saints would need one extra than Racing) could see the men in black, green and gold through to the last eight.

But with the Italians currently pointless at the foot of the Pool and Racing undefeated at home in 2014/15, that really would be a big ask – not forgetting Ospreys’ eight wins and one draw in nine Pro12/European outings at the Liberty!

The good news is that, even if the Saints slip to defeat in Round 5, things will remain very much in their own hands a week on Saturday, even if the exact permutations have yet to be resolved. Again bonuses over the next fortnight might well play a vital part.

One thing that is for sure is that two wins from their remaining two fixtures guarantees progression and puts the side in the strongest of positions for a home Champions Cup quarter final.

Ospreys and Treviso have already been seen off to the tune of a maximum at the Gardens this season and when Racing land on Saturday, January 24th (KO 3:15pm), more of the same might well be the order of the day.

The Saints’ 10th home game of the season is fast heading for a 10th sell-out, so make sure our place is secure by booking tickets for the Champions Cup qualification decider HERE.
