It proved to be the side’s first 100% month of 2014/15 so far and while any number of players could have made the cut, the coaches whittled down the list to a trio in excellent form.
Luther Burrell’s return from injury continues apace, the centre kicking off December with a try against Treviso to mark his 27th birthday.
A fortnight later came one of the individual performances of the season so far, the centre unstoppable and destructive in the epic 14-man defeat of Leicester. Of his 28 carries for the month, 15 came in the East Midlands derby alone, while Burrell also passed 11 opposition defenders.
The Saints currently operate the Aviva Premiership’s most accurate lineout, thanks in no small part to Mike Haywood. December was another outstanding month of arrows from the hooker, who nailed 42 of his 44 attempts (95%) and maintains a season average in the mid-90s.
It is work mirrored in the loose, too, where the 23-year-old made a combined 44 carries and tackles over four appearances.
The final nominee, Ken Pisi, ensured a season of consistent excellence carried into the New Year with yet more eye catching performances in the black, green and gold.
The Samoan wing bagged a hat-trick in the home drubbing of Treviso and racked up 287 metres with ball in hand. The 30 carries required for that total also took Pisi past 10 defenders, raising that total to 32 for the season, a number only matched by George North from the opposite wing.
