Alex Waller and Tom Wood – who collectively made more than 600 appearances for Northampton Saints – have been confirmed as the final two guest coaches for this summer’s Legends Weekend residential camp at Stowe School.
After an incredible 15 seasons in Black, Green and Gold, loosehead prop Waller retired from professional rugby following his 378th appearance, which came in the Gallagher PREM Final victory over Bath in 2024.
Waller is the Club’s record appearance‑maker in the professional era and the eighth most‑capped player in Saints history. Having graduated through the Saints Academy, he made his debut in 2009 and famously scored the extra‑time try that sealed the PREM title in 2014.
From 2018 to 2021, Waller also co‑captained Saints, lifting the PREM Rugby Cup in 2019 at cinch Stadium at Franklin’s Gardens.
Sharing the field that day – and in the PREM Final win five years earlier – was fellow forward Wood. He joined from Worcester in 2010 and went on to make 240 appearances in Black, Green and Gold, captaining the side during the 2015/16 season.
Wood was named PREM Player of the Season in 2011, the same year he made his England debut – the first of 53 international caps that included appearances at both the 2011 and 2015 World Cups. He retired from professional rugby in 2021 after 12 seasons with Saints, during which time he, alongside Waller, lifted the European Challenge Cup in 2019 and reached the Heineken Cup final in 2011.
Like Waller, Wood can also claim to have scored one of Saints’ most iconic tries in the professional era, when he crossed for the late winner against Leicester Tigers in the 2013/14 play-off semi-final at cinch Stadium.
The pair have extended their partnership beyond their playing days into the business world with Waller & Wood Woodworks, creating bespoke handcrafted tables and furniture.
