Wanderers name side to take on Sale Jets

Northampton Wanderers have named their line-up to take on Sale Jets in the Premiership Rugby Shield this evening, with Connor Tupai set to lead out the side on home soil.

The men in Black, Green and Gold are right in the hunt for a spot in the knock-out stages of the competition, level on points with Gloucester United and Wasps in the Northern Conference after two wins from their opening four matches.

Half-backs Tupai and Tommy Mathews will look to pull the strings at Franklin’s Gardens (kick-off 7.30pm), with Fraser Strachan and Ryan Olowofela selected in the midfield for Northampton.

Harry Mallinder spearheads a young back three from fullback, with Academy starlets Tommy Freeman and Josh Gillespie looking to inject some pace on the wings.

Reece Marshall makes his long-awaited injury return at hooker, with props Toby Trinder and Karl Garside either side of him, while Ampthill’s Rob Langley and Devante Onojaife pack down in the engine room.

Meanwhile Fiji international Sam Matavesi is selected at flanker for the first time in his Northampton career, with Ollie Newman and No.8 Tui Uru rounding off the back row.

Tickets for tonight’s match are available on the gate for just £5 adults and £2 juniors, with entry FREE for 2019/20 Season Ticket Holders. And if you're unable to make it to the Gardens, tonight's game will be streamed live on our YouTube channel thanks to Alpha Live.
