Fin Smith made it a double award-winning month as he claimed the Gallagher Player of the Month for April, adding the league’s gong to Northampton Saints’ club award that he also picked up for a stellar month in Black, Green and Gold.
Fly-half Smith won 44% of the supporter vote across the Gallagher PREM to become the second Saint to claim an award this term after Edoardo Todaro was voted winner in October, with Smith finishing ahead of Leicester Tigers’ Gabriel Hamer-Webb, Saracens’ Noah Caluori and Bristol Bears’ Kalaveti Ravouvou.
Smith amassed 31 points across the two rounds in April, guiding Saints to back-to-back victories and strengthening their position at the top of the table. In Round 13, Smith scored the winning try with just five seconds remaining to secure a dramatic bonus point win over play-off rivals Exeter Chiefs at Sandy Park.
The England No.10 followed that with another standout display in Round 14 as Saints edged closest challengers Bath Rugby in a thrilling top-of-the-table clash at cinch Stadium at Franklin’s Gardens. The 24-year-old crossed for the opening try to set the tone for one of the matches of the season and capped off a fine all-round performance by landing the decisive late penalty in a 41-38 home victory.
