Sion Bennett says that he is hoping to learn from the likes of Tom Wood and Calum Clark in establishing himself at Franklin’s Gardens.
The back rower arrived from Scarlets over the summer, and impressed when he came off the bench in the second half of last Friday’s pre-season win over Worcester Warriors, including making the initial break that led to the match-winning try.
But while he’s learning on the field, there is also the small matter of finding his feet in a new town, as SaintsTV found out.
“It’s an awesome experience,” he said. “It’s definitely been a bit weird moving away from home and leaving my mam but no it’s been really good.”
Bennett is not completely without home comforts, having been paired with a certain fellow Welshman.
“I’m living with George North but obviously he’s not here at the moment he’s away with Wales, but theres a couple of other boys living down the road from me and they’ve been looking after me to be fair,” he added.
“I’m missing him at the moment but theres a few Welsh flags up at the moment around the house so that’s comforting!”
As well as his new living arrangements, Bennett is also excited by the playing side of things at the Gardens.
“It’s been a long pre-season, which is a bit different from usual but it’s good to get some conditioning in and get into shape for the season,” he says.“Personally I feel like it’s a good step forward and I’m hoping to learn from the likes of Calum Clark and Tom Wood. It’s a great opportunity for me.”
