Burrell backing Saints in LV= semis

The centre takes on Scotland at Twickenham later in the afternoon, but says he’ll be keeping one eye on proceedings up the road in Barnet.

“For the final to be at Franklin’s Gardens is massive for us,” he told the England Rugby Podcast. “It’s something we’ve really targeted and the young players we’ve got on show are very talented.

“Saracens have an exceptional Academy as well and some very good players around the fringe of their first team so it’s setting up to be a nice semi-final.

“I’ll certainly be watching and cheering them on.”

As well as an opportunity at 2015’s first silverware on the line, rare first team opportunities are up for grabs – something which is not lost on Burrell having made his way through the competition before becoming an established international.

“It’s a huge, huge opportunity. The LV= Cup is a fantastic competition and gives not only the younger players, but fringe players that chance to get some game time.

“It was playing in the LV= Cup games with Northampton that I managed to get my foot in the door and push on. It gave me the confidence I needed as a player and also gave the coaches confidence in me.”

Saracens versus Saints kicks off at 12:30pm on Saturday and you can watch live on Sky Sports 3 or follow at www.saintslive.co.uk.
