Centurion Wood wants to go on and on at Saints

The England flanker returned from injury to become the latest Saints centurion after coming off the bench as a second half replacement in the 17-13 Aviva Premiership win over Harlequins.

And there was no disguising his satisfaction at reaching the landmark.

“I’m hugely proud of hitting 100 games,” Wood told SaintsTV. “I’ve really enjoyed my time here at Northampton. It’s a great bunch of lads, coaches, and the town as a whole gives us fantastic support.

“I feel like I’ve really improved as a player, and have really benefitted being around such good coaches and players. Long may it continue and I hope I’ll get to 200!

“I’ve had the odd injury and been away on international duty, so it’s been a long time in coming for me. But reaching the milestone is mutually positive for me and the club; I hope I’m doing my bit and they’re looking after me well.”

And there was a try to cap the milestone, too, Wood steering home a driving maul to take his team out of reach of a dogged Harlequins outfit.

“It’s great to be back and have my boots on again,” he added. “I don’t get that many tries. I did enjoy it but I can’t take any credit for it. The rest of the lads did the hard work and all I did was dive over at the end. It’s nice to mark the game with the score, but unfortunate that we didn’t go on and get the fourth try at the end.”
