How the Travis Perkins Big Christmas Toy Collection will make a difference

Travis PerkinsSponsored by Travis Perkins

In the spirit of the continuing charity theme sweeping through Franklin’s Gardens this November, supporters attending Saturday’s Aviva Premiership match against Newcastle Falcons are being invited to bring a toy or present to help brighten the Christmases of the 4,000 children and young people who are in care or in need here in Northamptonshire.

Travis Perkins have run a similar scheme at their Northampton head office in recent years, and it has made a massive difference to the lives of youngsters in the area.

Here are some of the comments made by social workers in 2012:

“There are no words that can truly describe the kindness of the people/organisations who have donated the presents, but I can say they will be bringing a lot of happiness to a number of children and parents who may well have been facing a very different Christmas this year”

“I cannot express the delight on the parents face when they saw what the Social Worker was able to bring towards their children’s Christmas from the much needed generosity of the companies and people that kindly offered the gifts to afford this family a potentially special time. Both parents could not express their gratitude enough and the repeats of thank you and tears suggest the positive impact of the generosity of people’s donations. As a professional I would like to say a sincere thank you too as it was I believe a privileged position that I was in, to be able to witness the delight and impact of people’s generosity”

“[This family] were really struggling to find funds for presents this year and had bought essential items such as scarves, gloves, PJ’s, etc. However they were unable to purchase any toys for the children without foregoing the Christmas food. The parents were so pleased with the donations that they received and could not thank us enough for our efforts in helping them out. Seeing their response makes you realise we can really make a positive difference to the families we work with. Thanks again for all your hard work in making it possible to support this family and others around the county”

So please help brighten the Christmas of a child in care right here in your county. Donation points will be available throughout Franklin’s Gardens on Saturday, with donations also being received in the club’s main reception and Superstore. Donations are already coming in; thank you to everyone who has contributed so far.

The Saints players joined in the Big Christmas Toy Collection this week, each signing a teddy bear that will be given to a child in care or in need. You can join them – all we ask is that the donation is new and unwrapped, and costs £10 or less.
