Kessell keen for more

His route to the number nine shirt at the Saints isn’t an easy one, but summer signing Tom Kessell is happy to bide his time and work hard for a chance in black, green and gold.

The spritely scrum-half has been busy impressing for the Wanderers on Monday evenings, meanwhile soaking up as much as he can from the likes of Lee Dickson of Kahn Fotuali’i during the week.

“I’m settling in really well,” the Cornishman told SaintsTV. “I just want to keep playing. I’m enjoying where I am at the moment and just hoping to get an opportunity when I can. On the whole I’m loving it really.

“I think we [scrum-halves] all get on really well as a group. Obviously you’ve got the two guys who are top internationals, so me and Mitch [Alex Mitchell] are just trying to learn as much as we can from them. Hopefully if the opportunities to play do come, we can show our best out there.”

The 25 year old former Pirate is also relishing the possibility of stepping out in front of a big crowd at Franklin’s Gardens, having already got a taste for the atmosphere from the stands.

“I’ve been surprised by how many supporters have braved the rain on Monday evenings. I’ve watched a couple of first team games where there’s been a full house too and I can’t wait to experience that. It’s pretty special.”
