Wilson: We know teams are out for us every week

Saints head to Newcastle this weekend looking to go one better than the losing bonus point they came home with from Adams Park last Sunday, and Wilson knows that the squad will have to put in a top-notch performance in the north east.

“You can’t go into any game in the Aviva Premiership being overly confident,” he said. “Every team is a challenge but that’s the beauty of this competition, every team is tough week in week out. Teams are out for us, we’re the reigning champions so they're going to come after us.

“Every game is going to be tough and we know that. We were disappointing last week but we need to learn from those things and move forward.

“Sunday was a very disappointing result, full credit to Wasps though they played really well. The atmosphere after the game was very quiet. Jim said a few words but not much was needed to be said. We all know we under-performed but the good thing with rugby is that we get to turn it around and be better.

“Newcastle have a few new players in their team this year; they're playing with some width and they're at home as well so it’s going to be tough for us. However we like to play that game as well so it is going to be a good test.”
