Appointed Northampton Saints’ 66th Club Captain at the beginning of the 2024/25 season, George Furbank is one of the longest-serving players at the Club.
He signed on initially from the Academy set-up in 2016, after developing as a player at Huntingdon RFC and Bedford School.
The fullback then made his senior debut in November 2017 against Exeter Chiefs – an occasion he marked with a maiden try – and a Premiership debut followed at home against Wasps the following season.
His rapid rise was recognised on the international stage as he was thrust into the senior England starting line-up away against France in Round 1 of the 2020 Six Nations, and retained the number 15 jersey for the trip to Scotland a week later.
Further caps would sporadically follow in 2021 and 2022 before Furbank earned a recall in the 2024 Guinness Six Nations, scoring tries against Scotland and Ireland before touring Japan and New Zealand and then starting three Autumn Nations Series games later that year.
It was just reward for the pivotal role Furbank made in the Premiership title-winning 2023/24 season, when he scored more tries (seven) and kicked more points (39) than in any of his other six full seasons at Saints.
It was also during that campaign when his leadership qualities really shone through, as Saints won all 12 of the games he captained that term.
Unfortunately, his first season as appointed captain was limited to just nine appearances, following an arm break in the historic Champions Cup win away at Vodacom Bulls in December 2024.
