Tom Lockett was initially part of Colchester United’s football academy, before being scouted by Saints Academy staff aged 16 while attending Colchester Royal Grammar School. Standing 6’7” and packing 112 kg, he brings a powerful blend of athleticism and size to the second row.
Progressing through Saints’ Senior Academy ahead of the 2021/22 season, Lockett made his first senior appearance off the bench in a Premiership Rugby Cup fixture against London Irish in November 2021. He earned his first starting role the following March against Newcastle Falcons.
He also gained game time on loan at Bedford Blues in the Championship – valuable exposure in the second tier which honed his physical and set-piece game.
Lockett continued developing over the 2022/23 season, and earned his Premiership debut in October 2023 against Sale Sharks, before marking his arrival on the European stage by scoring a match-winning try against RC Toulon in the Champions Cup in December.
He battled back from a preseason pectoral injury to return strongly during the 2024/25 campaign, where he added 22 appearances to his tally – including starting the Champions Cup final against Union Bordeaux Bègles.
On the international front, Lockett initially represented Wales at Under-18 level before switching allegiance to England. He was integral to England Under-20s’ campaigns in the 2022 Six Nations and subsequent Summer Series, earning seven caps and scoring one try.
He was named Player of the Match in England A’s victory over Ireland A in February 2025, and in June of that year, his form earned him a call-up to an England senior training camp for the first time – a sign of belief in his long-term potential.
