Guide to the Gardens: Loughborough Lightning vs Sale Sharks

Loughborough Lightning take on Sale Sharks at cinch Stadium at Franklin’s Gardens in Round 12 of the Allianz Premiership Women’s Rugby 2023/24 season on Sunday 3 March (kick-off: 3pm).

Nathan Smith’s side enter the match looking to return to winning ways having fallen to recent losses to Leicester Tigers and Bristol Bears. Standing in their way is a Sale Sharks team on a losing run of their own and determined to taste victory for the first time since November.

The last time the two sides met was in mid-December when Lightning claimed a 24-12 success at Heywood Road as Carmela Morrall crossed for two tries and singles from Daisy Hibbert-Jones and Cath O’Donnell secured a bonus point.

Tickets for Sunday’s match are still available – with prices starting from £7.50 adult / £3 child*.

    • Tickets for Loughborough Lightning vs Sale Sharks are still available to purchase HERE – with prices starting at £7.50 for adults and £3 for juniors*.
    • Please note; seating for this match is reserved seats only in the Carlsberg Stand, so please stick to the seat location indicated on your ticket.
    • Your match tickets are attached to your purchase confirmation email – please ensure you have these either printed on A4 paper, viewable on your smartphone, or added to your smartphone digital wallet before arriving at the stadium. Screenshots of your tickets are not accepted by the scanners on our turnstiles.
  • + SAINTS STORE

    • The Saints Store will be closed on Sunday.
    • A range of Loughborough Lightning merchandise will be available in the Supporter Village store from 2pm.
    • Items on sale include the African Violet home shirts, bobble hats and team hoodies!
  • + TICKET OFFICE

    • The Ticket Office will be open from 12pm on Saturday until approximately 15 minutes after kick-off (approx 3.15pm)
    • ​​Those who have not printed their tickets at home, or are not able to show their barcode on a mobile phone, will be able to have their matchday ticket printed at the Ticket Office for a £2.50 fee.
  • + Entertainment

    • Live music from drum group Phantom Knights in the Supporter Village before the game and on the pitch at half-time.
    • Test your rugby skills in a passing cage in the Rodber as well as getting your face painted!
    • England’s most-capped rugby international and former Loughborough Lightning player, Sarah Hunter, is leading an Allianz Inner Warrior rugby training session for women of all abilities, or wanting to try rugby for the first time, at the High Performance Centre* as well as holding a Q&A before the game for those aged 18 or over from 1.30pm.     • Those who sign up via the link above can also take part in a Q&A with Hunter in the Supporter Village from 1.30pm.
    • Get to your seats early to hear from some of Lightning’s stars 15 minutes before kick-off, as Sunday’s Club of the Match, Towcestrians RFC – who will also form the Guard of Honour as the teams run out – take part in a Q&A session.
    • Play Your Shirts Right - join in the fun on the big screen before the game!
    • Saints mascot Bernie will also be entertaining supporters before the game.
    • Hang around after match to see if you can catch one of Loughborough’s signed balls.
    • Watch out for pupils from Wootton Park School who will be holding a giant flag on the pitch!
    • An Under-12s festival is taking place pre-match on Pitch 2. The teams taking part include: Towcestrians, Old Northamptonians, Ampthill, Buckingham Cygnets, Bugbrooke Badgers, Peterborough, Loughborough, Market Bosworth and Northampton Casuals.

    * Clean rugby boots are required to participate in the HPC training session.

  • + Food and Drink

    • Rodber Bar open from 2pm serving food and drink.
    • The Supporter Village will be open with a burger van, coffee van, pick n mix and a container bar open.
    • Please be aware that cinch Stadium at Franklin’s Gardens is a cashless stadium; all bars and food outlets will only accept card payments.
    • Bars will close at approximately 5.15pm.
  • + Car Parking

    • Car Parking (in Car Park A, B & C, NN5 5AX, D will be available as an overflow option) will be available for £3 on the day via contactless payment upon arrival. Car parking tickets are not available to purchase in advance. Car Parks open at 1pm, with the stadium opening its gates at 2pm.
    • Please note, seasonal Saints Car Park passes are not valid for this fixture.
    • After the Car Parks close at 7pm on Saturday, there will be no access to any vehicle left behind until Monday 4 March.
    • Given that cinch Stadium at Franklin’s Gardens sits in a residential area of the town, Saints strongly urge all supporters to use the Club’s car parks. Should they choose not to do so, supporters must park with due care and respect for the needs of local residents and businesses.
  • + SMOKING

    • cinch Stadium at Franklin’s Gardens is a NO SMOKING stadium. Smoking and the use of e-cigarettes is not permitted anywhere in the stadium or Supporter Village pre, during or post-match. 
    • Supporters wishing to smoke will be allowed to exit the stadium during half-time to use one of the designated smoking areas outside Gates 1 and 2 – stewards will be on hand to direct you and will manage exit and re-entry into the stadium.
  • + OTHER INFO

    • ​The Club requests that supporters refrain from standing at the side of the pitch to watch the warm-up to prevent congestion. Please watch the warm-up from your seat.
    • There is an RFU-appointed timekeeper in attendance at the game on Sunday, so the in-stadium clocks will stop during the game. 
    • Please note, Saints’ Fan Radios will not be in use on Sunday.
