Lightning and Saints to combine again for Double Header of matches

Loughborough Lightning and Northampton Saints will both play at cinch Stadium at Franklin’s Gardens on Saturday 30 September, setting up a mouth-watering Double Header for the third time in as many seasons.

The men in Green, Black and Gold kick off the day with a Premiership Rugby Cup clash against Bath Rugby (3pm) followed by Lightning’s Allianz Cup showdown with Saracens (5.15pm).

Tickets are already on sale for the Double Header, priced from just £20* for adults and £6* for children for both matches.

The news follows confirmation of Loughborough’s fixture schedule in the Allianz Cup competition, which sees Lightning kick off their campaign – and the 2023/24 season – with a Pool B trip to reigning league champions Gloucester-Hartpury on Saturday 23 September (5pm).

The match on 30 September against 2022/23 Cup runners-up Saracens will be the first of many Lightning home games at the Gardens this season, with the venue being used to stage all of Loughborough’s Allianz Premiership Women’s Rugby home fixtures this term.

A trip to Harlequins arrives in Round 3 on Saturday 14 October (2pm) before Lightning conclude the pool stage against Ealing Trailfinders on Saturday 28 October (2pm) – a fixture that will be played at Epinal Way.

Lightning head coach Nathan Smith said: “The Double Header with Northampton Saints promises to be another exceptional day of rugby at cinch Stadium at Franklin’s Gardens.

“The Allianz Cup presents us with an excellent opportunity to pursue silverware, but also to grow as a team building into the start of the league campaign.

“The opportunity for Saints and Lightning to share the field again is really exciting.”

Nathan Smith, Loughborough Lightning Head Coach

“Northampton is a fantastic place to play rugby, with an atmosphere that is always special, and we hope that Saints’ supporters will turn out in force to support us as they always do.

“Our partnership is all about continuing to broaden the audience for women’s and girls’ rugby in our region, inspiring both current and new players alike, and events like the Double Header play a huge part in Saints and Lightning achieving that goal together.”

Lightning kick off their Allianz Premiership Women’s Rugby season on 18/19 November away at Saracens, with Season Tickets for all Loughborough’s home league matches going on sale from eticketing.co.uk/northamptonsaints at 11am on Thursday 10 August.
