Loughborough Lightning is delighted to confirm seven of it's current England U20s players have re-signed for the club heading into the 2025/26 season.
Lia Green, Lucy Calladine, Amelia Williams, Carmela Morrall, Lucy Finch, Molly Luthayi and Keevy Fitzpatrick were among the ten Loughborough players who recently participated in the Under-20s Six Nations Summer Series that concluded last weekend.
Centre Morrall (#109), 20, has gained the most Lightning appearances, clocking up 41 outings since her debut as a teenager way back in November 2022.
Loosehead prop Williams (#121), 20, made her debut as a teenager against Leicester Tigers at cinch Stadium at Franklin’s Gardens and has 21 appearances to her name.
Just behind her is Green (#117), 21, who has scored 64 points in 19 outings since appearance number one against Harlequins in April 2023.
Hooker Calladine, 20, (#122) captained England U20 this summer and already has three senior tries to her name in five Lightning games.
Centre Luthayi, 21, (#107), made her Lightning debut way back in March 2022 and has made nine appearances. Lock Fitzpatrick (#131) and back row Finch (#135) are both 20 years of age and have two and three appearances respectively.
All seven players played roles in leading Loughborough University to their second successive BUCS Super Rugby final, when they were defeated by Cardiff Met.
Fellow U20 squad members Grace Clifford and Haineala Lutui are under multi-year contracts at Loughborough Lightning too.
“I am delighted to secure such a talented group of high potential players on extended contracts,” said Lightning Head Coach Nathan Smith. “It is a tremendous source of pride for everyone involved at Loughborough Lightning and Loughborough University that we have such a strong representation in the England U20 squad this season.
“It is a strong representation of the good work being done in our pathway to develop and nurture young female rugby players to progress into Premiership Women’s Rugby and onto the international stage.
“I look forward to welcoming them all back into the environment soon as we build for the 2025/26 season.”
