Memorial Wall
Memorial Wall
Now and forever, eternally a Saint.
Northampton Saints are creating a dedicated memorial space within the grounds of Franklin’s Gardens – a place of reflection and belonging for those who have lived and breathed the Club.
Every year, the Club receives many requests from supporters to scatter the ashes of loved ones at Franklin’s Gardens. Until now, it has not been possible for us to provide a final resting place.
The new Saints Memorial Wall will change that – offering supporters the opportunity to have their own ashes, or those of a loved one, interred at the heart of their cherished Club.
It will be a permanent place of belonging, where memories endure and generations can come together to celebrate lives defined by loyalty and passion – for those who sang the chants, cheered the tries, and shared in every high and low.
A dedicated space within Franklin’s Gardens, the Saints Memorial Wall offers not just a resting place that is warmer than a cemetery, but a lasting connection to the history and future of Northampton Saints.
WHAT IS THE SAINTS MEMORIAL WALL?
The Club is partnering with specialist provider Sporting Legacies, and plans to start construction of the wall in the summer of 2026. The Saints Memorial Wall will feature a limited number of individual niches, each housing a personalised urn and fronted by a plaque made of specially-designed, weather-resistant porcelain.
Plaques will be engraved with the person’s name, date of birth, date of passing, and optional short tribute message. The Club will host a number of Interment Days each year, allowing families to mark this moment with dignity and care.
Located within a new enclosed Memorial Garden in a quiet corner of the Supporter Village at Franklin’s Gardens, the wall will be accessible every day and will remain in place for at least 50 years, ensuring a lasting tribute within the stadium footprint.
After this time, the Club will decide either to extend the life of the wall or to respectfully relocate the ashes to a permanent resting place at Franklin’s Gardens.
Whether honouring someone who has already passed or planning for your own future resting place, a niche in the Saints Memorial Wall ensures a lasting place at the heart of the Club.

GENERAL INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
What is the Saints Memorial Wall?
The Saints Memorial Wall is a columbarium wall containing spaces called ‘niches’. Each niche holds an urn, which in turn holds the cremated ashes of a deceased person.
What are the benefits of choosing a niche in the Saints Memorial Wall?
The Memorial Wall offers a positive, uplifting, and meaningful place for loved ones to celebrate your life. For those who love Saints, it is a unique opportunity to remain part of the Club forever.
How long have you been providing this service?
Although columbarium walls have been part of memorial traditions for hundreds of years, incorporating them into sports stadiums is a modern innovation. Northampton Saints are the first rugby club in the UK to offer this service, joining a small number of major sporting organisations globally – including FC Barcelona, Atlético Madrid and Texas A&M – who have created dedicated memorial spaces within their stadiums.
Where in the venue is the Wall located?
Subject to planning permission, the wall will sit within a new Memorial Garden in a quiet corner of the Supporter Village at Franklin’s Gardens. It will be accessible daily and will remain in place for at least 50 years, ensuring a lasting tribute within the stadium footprint.
How many niches are available?
There are 560 niches available.
Which material is used for the niches?
We use porcelain, chosen for its durability, weather resistance, ease to clean, and attractive appearance.
Do I have to be a Season Ticket Holder to buy a niche?
No. Niches are available to anyone – living or passed away – who loves or loved the Club.
When can my family visit my niche after I pass away?
The wall is accessible on any day the stadium is open (Monday to Friday, plus matchdays). Please note: visiting the wall does not provide matchday access to the stadium.
I live overseas. Can I buy a niche, and can I be interred at Saints?
Yes. Anyone can purchase a niche, regardless of location. Your family must arrange transportation of your ashes in line with our guidelines. They may bring them personally, or you can use a specialist logistics partner. Please contact us and we will help you explore the best option.
PROCESS, INTERMENT & AFTERCARE

Most funeral directors or crematoria return ashes within one week. We will then schedule the interment on the next available Interment Day.
What is involved in an interment ceremony?

When are your Interment Days?
They are scheduled in advance and will be listed HERE, once the Memorial Wall has been constructed.
Will there be other people being interred on my Interment Day?
Yes, there may be a number of people being interred on the same day – but this will not happen at the same time. The Interment Ceremony is exclusive to the family and friends of the person being interred.
Can I arrange a private Interment Ceremony?
All interment ceremonies are exclusive to the family and friends of the person being interred at that time.
Can I arrange for my own celebrant to lead the interment?

How do you know when I have passed away?

How many people can attend my interment?
Up to 30 people (owing to the size of the Memorial Garden) may attend the Interment Ceremony itself.
How can I arrange a wake or celebration of life event?
If you are also hosting a wake or life celebration at the stadium, our event spaces have capacity for larger parties. Once you have agreed a date for your Interment Ceremony, the Sporting Legacies team will connect you with our hospitality team at Franklin’s Gardens to make arrangements. Any food or drink arrangements must be agreed and paid for in advance.
Can I pay for food and beverages for my Interment Day at the same time as paying for my niche?
No. Your family will need to arrange and pay for any catering at the time – although you may provide for this in your Will.
I am a custodian of a customer’s ashes. What do I do next?
Please complete the nominated representative form on our webpage. You will then receive an information pack explaining the next steps. We will require; a cremation certificate and the number of ceremony attendees. If you wish to book a wake or life celebration at the same time, the Sporting Legacies team will connect you with the hospitality team at Franklin’s Gardens.

If your ashes are interred as soon as the wall is built, your term will be the full 50 years. If you are interred later, your term is 50 years minus the time the wall has already been in place. You must be interred within 24 months of passing, or the right to use the niche is forfeited.

Yes. The Memorial Garden will be a secure, enclosed space and will be kept locked when not in use. Access will be available to authorised friends and family members via a dedicated security system, ensuring the garden remains a peaceful and protected place of reflection. Full details of the access arrangements will be shared once the Memorial Garden has been built.
What happens if my niche is damaged or defaced?
The façade is regularly cleaned, and the wall sits within the stadium’s secure perimeter with CCTV coverage. The wall is insured for damage or theft and is considerably more secure than a typical graveyard. Should damage occur, it will be addressed under this insurance.
What happens if someone steals my ashes?
While ashes themselves cannot be insured, the Saints Memorial Wall is insured for damage or theft. The wall is highly secure, and removing a sealed urn is difficult. Theft is extremely unlikely, and the niche is far more secure than a public graveyard. In the unlikely event ashes were stolen, the engraved front plate would remain in place for the full term.
What happens to the ashes after the term has finished, or in the unlikely event the venue moves?
The Club will decide either to extend the life of the wall or relocate the ashes elsewhere within the stadium footprint. In the unlikely event the Club moves or ceases operating, ashes will be respectfully relocated within the stadium footprint before any sale or redevelopment.
DOUBLE NICHES
DOUBLE NICHES
Can I be interred with other members of my family?

How does a Double Niche work?

How many niches can I buy for my family?
You may purchase as many single or double niches as are available. To check availability, please contact our Customer Care team.
Can some of my ashes be placed at Saints and some elsewhere?
