Saints retain their spot at the top of Pool 1 in the Anglo-Welsh Cup after producing another victory on Saturday, this time at home to Gloucester Rugby, but only by one point as Saracens close the gap with a bonus point win over Newcastle Falcons.
Bath Rugby were first up from Pool 1 this weekend, facing Scarlets in Wales on Friday night. The home side prevailed and put 44 points on their guests, Bath answered with 21 of their own but failed to collect a point and remain in third place in the pool with just a losing bonus point after two rounds.
Leicester Tigers ensured Newport Gwent Dragons stayed bottom of the pool with a huge 42-3 victory over the Welshmen at Welford Road. The Dragons are, therefore, yet to pick up a point in this season’s campaign but have only played one round of the tournament so far as the Pro 12 was still in action last weekend.
Saracens hosted last week’s opposition Newcastle and put together a bonus point winning performance to see them close the gap at the top of Pool 1, now just one point behind Saints after adding their five points this weekend to the 2 the secured at Kingsholm in the opening round.
With the Aviva Premiership now upon us once again, Saints are next in Anglo-Welsh Cup action on 28th January as the travel to Welford Road for the second Midlands Derby of the season.
