Being selected in the Lions test team is "pretty awesome", says future Saint

The 21-year-old winger, who joins the Saints later in the summer, has been selected alongside fellow future club mate Alex Corbisiero in Warren Gatland's team which will run out to play the Wallabies in Brisbane.

He has been one of the Lions' star players so far, with eye-catching performances against Western Force, Queensland Reds and the NSW/Queensland Combined Country.

And the hard work has paid off with the number 11 shirt for this weekend's Suncorp Stadium showdown.

"It's pretty awesome," North commented. "There have been a lot of games played in the season leading up to this and to be selected is one of the best honours you can ever have in rugby in the UK.

"To be in the test team for the Lions is something you dream about as a boy and It's amazing that I'm able to realise that on Saturday."

The winger had been the focal point of considerable speculation regarding his fitness after coming off at half-time in the Lions' tour match against NSW/Queensland Combined Country.

And after having been declared fit to play, North paid tribute to the effort and time put in by the Lions medical team, which includes former Saints physio Phil Pask.

"It's been a busy week working with the medical staff on my rehab, but I'm back flying now and it feels really good," North said. "With any injury there can be a bit of doubt, but I had to put in a lot of hard work with the physio staff on my treatment, and once I started running on it I knew it was right."

North's direct opponent on Saturday is Wallaby debutant Israel Folau, the former rugby league and Australian Rules professional described as a 'complete footballer' by the Australian media.

And the Welshman knows that he is in for a stiff challenge.

"He's been on fire this season," North commented. "He's a quality player and part of a quality back line and we've been looking at all of them ahead of the test. It's going to be a good test for all of us."

Saturday's game between Australia and the British and Irish Lions is being shown live on Sky Sports. Coverage starts at 10:30am with the match itself kicking off at 11:05am.

And you can see George North and Alex Corbisiero throughout 2013/14 by getting your hands on a Saints Season Ticket. Prices start at under £200, with the Season Ticket package including every home game in the Aviva Premiership, Heineken Cup and LV= Cup campaigns.
