Best of English clash capturing the imagination

Travis PerkinsSponsored by Travis Perkins

Northampton Saints host Saracens at stadiumMK on Saturday, April 25th, 2015, in a repeat of the 2014 Aviva Premiership Final, kick-starting not just the countdown to Rugby World Cup 2015 in the city but also the run-in to the all-important Aviva Premiership semi-finals, too!

The Saints and Saracens have been leading the way in the Aviva Premiership this season, sitting first and second in the league table respectively after six rounds of action. And with well over half of stadiumMK’s 30,500 seats having been booked already this ‘Best of English’ clash is set to be the latest instalment of one of the Aviva Premiership’s keenest rivalries.

Last May’s Aviva Premiership Final went down to the final play of extra time, with Alex Waller burrowing over for the try which saw the silverware head to Franklin’s Gardens. But this was not the first time that a Saints versus Saracens game had gone down to the wire, with the 2009 European Challenge Cup and 2010 Aviva Premiership semi-finals being sealed with late scores.

The two clubs have also gone head-to-head in the 2013 Aviva Premiership semi-final and 2010 and 2014 LV= Cup semi-finals, and a large number of England’s World Cup squad are likely to be lighting up the perfect pitch at stadiumMK, too.

Tickets have now gone on sale in the upper tier at stadiumMK. Junior and concession tickets are priced at £20 and £24 respectively throughout the tier, with adult tickets available at £34 and £42. Family tickets are also available at £80 for two adults and two juniors, representing a 26 percent saving on the standard price in those areas.

Tickets are available now by CLICKING HERE and following the straightforward instructions.

Meanwhile the Saints Ticket Office has now begun the process of allocating seats in the lower tier. When this has been completed remaining tickets will also be put on general sale.

Hospitality packages are also available, including a three-course silver service meal in the Pitchside Restaurant, insight into the action from members of the Saints squad before and after the game, complimentary bar (beers, lagers, house wine and soft drinks), post-match refreshments and seats on the centre line.

Chief executive Allan Robson says that the day is shaping up into being a memorable occasion.

“We have had a tremendous response to the game, and I’m delighted to see that around 18,000 tickets have been booked already,” he said. “Now that it has been completed stadiumMK is a world class stadium and a fitting stage for world class players from the two sides that will produce a magnificent occasion.

“We are finalising some details to involve a popular national charity, and working on a plan of entertainment for the day off the pitch. Meanwhile with Saints and Saracens leading the way in the Aviva Premiership once again we know that we will be in for an excellent match between two of the country’s top teams!”

Following the recent completion of the second tier, stadiumMK has been expanded up to 30,500 and the ‘Best of English’ match between the 2014 Aviva Premiership finalists is an opportunity to test the match day operations with a large rugby audience.

stadiumMK is no stranger to top-level rugby union, with the Saints making the short journey down the M1 for three Heineken Cup matches in 2011 and 2012 and the December 2012 thriller against Saracens.

Over 22,200 supporters flocked to the Heineken Cup game against Munster in January 2012, and a capacity crowd next April will set a new venue attendance record. The club is also working with Rugby World Cup 2015 Tournament Organisers, England Rugby 2015, and stadiumMK, to help enable some operational venue and transport testing at this game ahead of it hosting three matches at next year’s tournament.

“We are so pleased to be staging this match which, as well as being an important match from Northampton’s perspective, will provide an excellent way of further testing and refining stadiumMK and the city’s ability to hold a match of great importance in readiness for Rugby World Cup 2015 coming to MK next October,” added MK Dons chairman Pete Winkelman.
