Biggar to start at No.10 for Wales against Italy

Northampton Saints' fly-half Dan Biggar has been selected to start for Wales this weekend by head coach Warren Gatland for their clash against Italy in Rome.

After impressing off the bench in the comeback victory against France, Biggar will wear the No.10 jersey at the Stadio Olimpico (Kick-off 4.45pm GMT, live on ITV & S4C), winning his 67th cap.

The 29-year-old Saint lines up in an exciting-looking back line, with Jonathan Davies captaining his country for the first time alongside Owen Watkin in midfield, and Aled Davies named at scrum-half.

“We have made a number of changes this weekend but have picked what we think is a very exciting team that still has huge experience throughout it,” said Gatland.

“We have had a squad of 31 training together, replicating the Rugby World Cup and it is important they get game-time.

“Italy will be hurting after last weekend but they are a different proposition in Rome.

“They are an experienced team themselves and they will be looking to put things right on the pitch after their opening defeat.”
