Clare says Saints will still give everything in Montpellier

Going into the last round of the European Champions Cup pool stages on the back of four consecutive wins in all competitions, Saints travel to Montpellier Herault this Friday for round six of this season’s campaign.

Hooker Charlie Clare says that the recent run of form Saints have been enjoying is forcing them to work harder rather than become complacent as they look to kick on with their momentum despite being unable to qualify for the knock out stages of the European competition.

“I think especially the win last weekend was really positive,” Clare commented on this week’s SaintsTV Show.

“The way we played, some of the tries, the opportunities we created, was really good to see.

“Winning becomes a habit, so to get four wins on the bounce was great.

“Gloucester away, where we had to grind that win out, and even Bristol, wasn’t an easy win, so it’s been really good and hopefully we can continue that when we get back into the Aviva Premiership in a few weeks and with the Anglo-Welsh Cup games that we’ve got coming up.”

Clare said that, despite Friday’s game not meaning much to Saints chances in the European Champions Cup, the side are still intending to give it their all against Montpellier.

“In my opinion, every time you play you’re judged as a character and you want to go out there and do the best you can so no game should be seen as one that you can write off.

“We’ll go out there and give it everything but it means that you can play a different way with a bit less pressure, which is all for the better, you get to play an exciting brand of rugby so let’s hope that can happen.”
