Anders Mogensen led the way with a hat-trick of tries but it was the front row that drew first blood for the Wanderers - Tom Warren showing pace and power akin to a wide man to outstrip a trio of Coventry defenders on the left.
Tonks missed the conversion but immediately from the restart the fly half pierced a gap and this time the gas did come from the wing, Mogensen cantering under the posts on a strong supporting line.
The flyer would score the Wanderers' third too, but this time the finish required a little more work as he cut the grain and burst through to reward a patiently building move just past the quarter mark.
There was almost a fourth for Cesar Sempere but the Mogensen-Noah Cato combination was adjudged to have moved the ball just forward and the Spaniard was pulled up on his run to the posts.
Just moments later however the Wanderers would cross for a fourth and it was Mogensen once more who showed his finisher's instinct to burst over in the corner for the half's final points.
The second half started with another pair of Wanderers chances and while both failed to go to hand at the telling moment, the second scrum was won against the head and allowed James Ingle to slam down. Five minutes later a sixth was added by Sempere, Mogensen this time the creator releasing his full back into acres of space.
The hosts were working tirelessly to hold off the Wanderers charge but a combination of the boggy pitch and relentless waves of attack were proving hard to resist and having swept some 60 metres upfield, Tom Stephenson danced his way through for a score converted by Will Hooley.
Hot on the heels of that score came another, Glyn Hughes outpacing the Coventry defence and putting Charlie Sadler under the posts before a neat handling move gave Tom Hicks a simple run to the line for number nine.
