Spending time in the Saints Study Centre might not be everyone’s idea of a perfect summer holiday, but thanks to funding from East Hunsbury Parish Council and Northamptonshire County Council youngsters from the local area have been enjoying plenty of fun and activities over the past few weeks!

From raft building at Northampton White Water Centre and trampolining at Benham Sports Arena, to finding out about atoms, reactions and DNA from Atomic Tom, puppet making with Amy Nicholson and finding out about Saints legend Edgar Mobbs, the young learners have had a wide range of exciting sessions that have involved computer work, crafts and physical activities.

Each youngster from East Hunsbury attended the Saints Study Centre for four days during the summer holiday, with an additional week of activities delivered on behalf of Northamptonshire County Council.

“We had the Study Centre recommended to us, and when we looked at it as part of the bigger picture every councillor on the parish council was behind the idea; it was a unanimous decision,” said Maggie Allen, chair of East Hunsbury Parish Council.

“Having come to the Study Centre, seen some of the activities in action and spoken to the youngsters, their families and mentors, we’re delighted that we chose to fund these weeks.

“It’s given the parents and carers a break over the holidays and given the youngsters something to do that the parents might not have thought about, the puppet making, white water centre, and so on, which covered all bases from an educational and participatory perspective.

“We always look to invest in our local people, especially our young people, and I could not speak more highly of the Study Centre and the work done by Pete and his team. We were very impressed by everyone we met and spoke to; everyone was welcoming and friendly, and they have been excellent in communicating throughout the project.”
