Elliott "surprised" to receive Breakthrough Award nod

The Senior Academy back burst onto the 2011/12 LV= Cup in the best possible fashion, scoring two tries in the Round 1 win over Saracens.

With a brace against Castres in the Heineken Cup and another try in the Aviva Premiership Rugby win over Bath Elliott has crossed the whitewash five times in his eight appearances so far this season. He was also named in the England Under-20 Six Nations squad, and while he has not made the trip to Scotland he is more than happy to be available for club duty this weekend.

"It's a massive game for us this weekend and I'm hoping to be picked so I can help us get a good result against Wasps," Elliott said at this week's media session at the Trek Store in Milton Keynes. "I know that I've got to perform well because we've got some good wingers at the club like Vasily [Artemyev], Noah [Cato] and Scott [Armstrong] who are all eager to play.

"I'm definitely surprised and delighted to have been long-listed for the LV= Breakthrough Award. All I've done is try to do my best for the team and to help us do well. It was also a surprise because there have been a lot of young players who have put their hands up this season like Ben Nutley and Mike Haywood.

"But while it's nice to be recognised I know that I'll only be as good as my next game and if I get selected against Wasps I'll be going all out for a win to hopefully get us into the semi-finals."
