Franklin’s Gardens will host the RBS Six Nations Under-20 clash between England and Scotland at 6:15pm on Saturday, March 11th, 2017.
The England Under-20 team has been a regular sight at Franklin’s Gardens this decade, beating Italy 52-7 in 2013 and Ireland 33-9 a year later. Players from the Saints Academy have also featured prominently both in match day squads and on the scoresheet, with Tom Stephenson scoring in the win over Italy and Howard Packman crossing the whitewash in the success against Ireland.
Many of the players who have featured in the Under-20 clashes have gone on to become regulars in the Aviva Premiership, with Maro Itoje, Paul Hill (both 2014), Jack Nowell, Luke Cowan-Dickie, Jack Clifford and Ollie Devoto (all 2013) going on to win full international honours with England and Ross Moriarty (2014) with Wales.
Current Saint Harry Mallinder captained England to the World Rugby Under-20 Championship earlier this year and he says that the 2017 squad will enjoy their experience in the East Midlands.
“Franklin’s Gardens is a great place to play and I’m sure that the lads will enjoy it in March,” he said. “Guys like Howard Packman, Tom Stephenson and Sam Olver all have played here for England in the past and they had a really good experience.
“Playing for England is always special and with the Under-20s being the current world champions I hope that there will be a big crowd here to cheer them on.”
Tickets cost £15 or £12 for adults and £7 or £5 for Under-16s and can be booked now at www.northamptonsaints.co.uk/buytickets.
There will be a full day of rugby at Franklin’s Gardens, with England’s Six Nations clash with Scotland being shown live from Twickenham on the big screens from 4pm before the Under-20 game kicks off.
