Freeman, Furbank, Lawes & Ludlam in England squad for Six Nations training camp

England head coach Eddie Jones has named four Northampton Saints in his England squad ahead of the Guinness Six Nations campaign starting next month – with Tommy Freeman, George Furbank, Courtney Lawes and Lewis Ludlam all included in the 36-player group which will begin preparations for the tournament.

Fresh from making his 250th Saints appearance in Northampton’s clash with Ulster on Sunday, back row Lawes embarks on his 11th Six Nations campaign hoping to add to his 90 England caps so far.

The 32-year-old will be joined by back row Ludlam and fullback Furbank, who have ten and five England caps respectively to date, as the squad convenes in Brighton on Monday (24 January) for a five-day training camp – with uncapped fullback Freeman also set for his second experience within the England group after joining the side back in the Autumn.

“Selecting this squad has been a difficult task, we’ve got plenty of good young players coming through and some of our more experienced are rediscovering their best form,” said Jones.

“We think this 36 for the first training week reflects a good balance of that experience and up-and-coming talent. In Brighton we’ll focus on getting the fundamentals of our game in play right and developing the cohesion of the team.

“The Six Nations is going to be the most competitive we’ve ever seen. All the countries performed well in the autumn, so we need to be at our best and improve with every game.”
