James Grayson skippers Northampton Wanderers as they get their Premiership Rugby Shield campaign underway against Wasps A at Franklin’s Gardens tonight (kick-off 7.30pm).
Having reached the knock-out stages of the competition last term, Wanderers' coaches have opted for youth in their first matchday squad of the Shield competition – with an average age of less than 20 years old across the starting XV.
Toby Trinder, Jack Hughes and Karl Garside pack down in the front row, with Alex Coles and Devante Onojaife behind them in the engine room.
JJ Tonks teams up with Ollie Newman and Tui Uru to complete the pack while Connor Tupai joins captain Grayson in the half-back berths.
Tommy Mathews and Fraser Strachan fill the centre spots for the season opener, while Ryan Olowofela and the Club’s youngest ever modern-day Saint Josh Gillespie join Tommy Freeman to make up the back three.
