Harrison: Players’ Player award is extra special

Teimana Harrison has described how “special” it is to have won Carlsberg Players’ Player of the Season award on Monday evening.

On a night when he also scooped the inaugural DTB Breakthrough Player of the Season and Travis Perkins Supporters’ Player of the Season awards, Harrison said: “It’s been awesome to get recognized by my peers.

“They voted for it so that makes it extra special. The brothers are the ones fighting beside me every week and for them to notice how well they think I’m playing is amazing.”

Dylan Hartley was instrumental in bringing the back row forward to Saints from New Zealand having seen him whilst England were playing there during the 2011 Rugby World Cup, and Harrison is keen to repay the faith that Hartley has shown in him.

“With Dylan, it’s pretty much like we are brothers,” said Harrison. “He’s looked after me so well and I’m trying to repay him the favour by playing well and not letting him down.

“He brought me over here so it’s my job to live up to him and do him proud.”

Harrison’s superb performances in Black, Green and Gold have also led to England squad selection, of which he is incredibly proud: “I’m really pleased; it was a bit of a surprise.

“I didn’t think it would ever happen but I got it. I’m just so proud and hopefully I’m making my family proud.”
