Jack Lewis named cinch Player of the Month for February

Jack Lewis has been named cinch Player of the Month for February, after claiming the overwhelming majority of the supporter vote after his appearances throughout the month impressed Northampton Saints supporters.

Back-to-back away wins kept Saints’ form on the road ticking over throughout February, as Northampton dispatched first Harlequins (24-40) and then Newcastle Red Bulls (21-49) in successive weekends.

The men in Black, Green and Gold rounded off the month with a dramatic home victory over Saracens, a match which saw Saints come back from a 12-point deficit to score two tries in the game’s final five minutes, before James Pater’s clutch conversion sealed the 35-33 win.

It was hard to miss Lewis, Saints’ newest debutant, across these clashes. Still just 17 years old, the back rower has caught the eye in Saints’ Under-18s side for the last two seasons and stepped up to make his first-team debut against Quins. He marked his debut with a monster maiden carry before his first start (against Saracens) saw him make some 38 metres from 11 carries and secure three turnovers.

Those performances not only made Lewis – a student at Northampton School for Boys – Saints’ second-youngest-ever player, but also earned him the lion’s share of this month’s supporter vote, pipping teammates Archie Benson, Luke Green, Archie McParland and Chunya Munga to become the only player to earn the award before penning a senior contract.

Throughout the season, cinch will also be offering up a range of prizes for those who vote for the award, with one lucky supporter each month selected at random after voting closes.

This month, Josh Melling was chosen out of over 800 supporters who voted – winning a Saints ball signed by this month’s winner, Jack Lewis.
