Lawes and Lions thrill in Hamilton

Travis PerkinsSponsored by Travis Perkins

The British and Irish Lions secured their first mid-week win of the tour this morning as they powered to a 34-6 win over the Chiefs in Hamilton.

Leading by a converted score at the break, through a Jack Nowell opener, the Lions kept their hosts try less and added three more of their own, with another for the Exeter Chief, a cracker from Jared Payne and a penalty try.

Despite leaving the field momentarily for a head injury assessment, Courtney Lawes returned and was instrumental throughout, destroying the Chiefs scrum and lineout with his teammates to help secure an all important win for the touring side in the penultimate game before the first Test.

Next up for the Lions is the first Test against New Zealand on Saturday (June 24th), which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
