Ma’afu: We want to be top for the long run

“We’re at the top now and now we’ve become the target,” the prop told SaintsTV. “Everyone’s going to try and shoot us down but for us as a team we’re not happy with just being here in February. We want to be here in May and still be going strong at the end of the season.

“There’s a long way between now and then and that starts this weekend when we go out against Worcester.”

The Warriors slipped to a 13th defeat from 13 last Friday against Leicester, but Ma’afu acknowledged that the Warriors will come to Franklin’s Gardens with a renewed vigour having pushed the champions so close in their best performance of 2013/14 so far.

“We’ve showed Worcester a lot of respect in our preparations and we’re looking forward to a tough game. Against Leicester they played with a lot more confidence and they’ll take a lot from that.

“I’m sure they’ll look at a few areas to improve and bring that and more this Saturday. We understand where they are coming from though and our task is to get on top early and deny them any momentum because that will make them a dangerous team.”

Victory would provide the Saints with a 10th straight win in all competitions, but more importantly four more points in the race for the Aviva Premiership title.
