Speaking for the first time since earning his second call-up to the British and Irish Lions on Wednesday, George North said that he was overwhelmed to have earned another selection from Warren Gatland.
“I guess excited is an understatement,” North commented to SaintsTV.
“I’m a bit overwhelmed really. The last experience was awesome and hopefully we can repeat that again.
“I’m just excited. I know how much of honour it is and what it means to go out there. Obviously we’re going to New Zealand this time and it’s going to be a massive challenge.
“When you’re playing the World Champions in their own back garden, that’s tough.
“But I think going there with a team that’s formed of four different nations and having to, sort of, mash together and understand each other in a short period of time to play the tests is another massive challenge.
“It’s something that I’m excited to get back into it now.”
Having already toured with the Lions once, back in 2013 before he joined Saints, North said that the idea of players who are usually rivals coming together to play for one team was something that stuck with him.
“I think just the whole experience is incredible, everyone coming together and working as one to eventually go on tour. I just think winning the series 2-1 last time was just amazing.”
